As you might expect for people that work at a podcasting company, we listen to a lot of podcasts. Here are a few from March.
Couples Therapy with Candice and Casey: Funny, inspiring and raw. I love this podcast because it shows me what a true commitment is in marriage with all the ups, downs and acceptance involved. Candice and Casey are hilarious. The shows comes out once a week ish and I look forward to every episode.
Death, Sex & Money: The host Anna Sale is an incredible interview. I love the way the story is produced and the conversation flows with each guest. They cover Death, Sex and Money. It's great to learn about how people have gotten out of student loans, how actors deal with celebrity, how a couple transitioned into marriage after the newlyweds became paralyzed in a biking accident. The episodes are fascinating and engaging to listen to.
I’m the worst about listening to any podcasts, but I really like the Commonwealth Club of California. It’s always informative, thought provoking and inspiring. I find that when I finish listening I have a new and better perspective on various topics in the country and the world.
I loved Invisibilia's new season and especially this recent episode. I also enjoyed the college cheating scandal commentary by We the Fifth #135 - "Privileged College Parents, Platform Revoked". Super inspired by Charlie Rocket, especially in this episode.
I've plugged their Patreon-only part of their show, but I love Comic Lab. I think a lot of what they talk about in their show could apply to podcasts, such as being careful of "magic number" thinking, and figuring out when it's okay to start creating merchandise. They discuss the business side of merch creation including calculating the cost to make an item vs the amount you can reasonably ask for it. One item that has becoming popular lately are pins, since they're cheap to make, don't take up a lot of space to store, and you can normally sell it at 3-5x what it took to make it.
I’ve actually been listening to a podcast called The Debug Log lately. I enjoy it because it explores game development concepts (a secret hobby of mine) from a high level, and the hosts do a great job of keeping on-topic.
I get most of my podcasting in when I'm cleaning my apartment–which is how I blitzed through all of season one and season two of Super Ordinary while prepping for a party I was hosting. The show's lead has super powers, but they're tied to her panic attacks, so she has limited control over them, and thus gets herself branded a super-villain. Season three is coming super-soon so you still have time to catch up!
I’ve been listening to a new podcast from Harper’s Bazaar called Dare I Say. (Full disclosure, my wife created it, but it’s actually very good.) Hosted by Olivia Wilde, the premise is simple: every episode, two awesome women have an open and honest conversation about what’s really going on in the world. Some of the guests include Laverne Cox, Planned Parenthood’s new president Dr. Leana Wen, and Jane Fonda. It’s fascinating, informative, and thoughtful. Plus each episode is only 30 minutes long, perfect for my commute to work.
